“Star Trek” actor Kenneth Mitchell dead at 49 after ALS battle

The actor who played Captain Marvel and Star Trek: Discovery, Kenneth Mitchell, passed away on Saturday. His age was 49 years.

In an Instagram post, his family said,

“With heavy hearts, we inform the passing away of Kenneth Mitchell, dear father, husband, brother’s uncle, child, and dear friend to many.” After five and a half-year battle with Lou Gehrig’s disease, a neurodegenerative condition that damages nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord, Kenneth Mitchell passed away.

According to his family, Kenneth Mitchell “managed to rise above each one with grace and commitment to living a full and joyous life in every moment” despite the “series of horrible challenges” he suffered as a result of cancer.

Mitchell, who was born in Toronto on November 24, 1974, became well-known for his roles as Joseph Danvers in “Captain Marvel” and as the Klingons Kol, Kol-Sha, and Tenavik in “Star Trek: Discovery.”

In addition, he had appearances on “Grey’s Anatomy,” “the NCIS series,” and “Criminal Minds,” in addition to acting in the hockey drama “Miracle.” On Sunday, the “Star Trek” universe remembered Kenneth Mitchell and expressed its “deep sadness” at his departure on its website. It stated, “The entire Star Trek relatives offer their condolences to Kenneth Mitchell loved ones, relatives, friends, and supporters world.”

In addition to being a “dream believer,”

“beach walker,” “garden grower,” and “hope seeker,” his family also recalled him as a “proud father.” Lilah and Kallum, his children, and his wife Susan remain with him. According to his family, he asked that any donations go toward funding ALS research, which is another name for the illness.

Mitchell expressed his want to be placed beneath a tree’s roots in a line he composed and included in the tribute, saying that he wanted to “reach up through the branches and touch the night sky, so I can be soaked up, all my matter, my energy, my love, my laughter, my tears.”
