Flyers

Centre Ryan Johansen and a conditional 2025 first-round pick were acquired by the Philadelphia Flyers on Wednesday in exchange for defenseman Sean Walker and a 2026 fifth-round draft pick from the Colorado Avalanche. Frank Seravalli of Daily Faceoff and Adam Kimelman of NHL.com have both reported that the 2025 first-round pick contains top-10 protection. Next, according to The Athletic, the Flyers placed Johansen on waivers. Walker was obtained by the Flyers from the Los Angeles Kings in the summer of last year as a component of the three-team trade that sent Ivan Provorov to the Charlotte Hornets. Cal Peterson, the goaltender, and defense prospect Helge Grans arrived in Philadelphia with Walker. In 63 games with the Flyers, Walker, 26, collected 22 points, six goals, and a plus-9 rating.

The right-handed defenseman has a four-year, $10.6 million contract that is coming to an end. With Colorado this season, Johansen, 31, has played in 63 games and scored 23 goals. Johansen signed an eight-year, $164 million contract with the Nashville Predators in 2017. He has one year remaining on the deal, and CapFriendly reports that he has a $8 million cap hit. In the 2025 NHL draft, Philadelphia will have two first-round and two second-round picks. Earlier in the season, the Flyers acquired another second-round pick in 2025 by dealing Cutter Gauthier to the Anaheim Ducks in exchange for Jamie Drysdale. The trade on Wednesday occurs two days prior to the NHL trading deadline on Friday.

Flyers extend deal with Nick Seeler

Additionally, defenseman Nick Seeler was signed by the Flyers on Wednesday to a four-year, $10.8 million deal extension. Seeler’s deal has an average yearly value of $2.7 million. The extension for the 30-year-old starts in 2025–2026. Seeler was linked to trade speculations, but his four-year contract deal keeps him in Philadelphia. In 63 games this season, 6-foot-3, 197-pound Seeler has 12 points, 184 blocked shots, and a plus-15 rating. Seeler suffered a lower-body injury earlier on Wednesday, leading to his placement on injured reserve. Defenseman Adam Ginning was recalled by the Flyers from the Lehigh Valley Phantoms.
